Balancing work and a child can be challenging

As a mother trying to balance full-time work with family life, it has never been easy.  Read on for tips on balancing work and family life.The key is to focus on a plan, get organized and find the right balance between career and parenting.  Here are few ways to make sure both your career and your family thrive.

Instead of thinking about how your child is doing, think about how your role in the company can benefit your family.  Maybe you can offer your kids some classes or educational opportunities, or perhaps you can save your tuition. The most successful moms have found ways to work in both worlds, requiring them to be open to choices and focus on the priorities of the moment. Assume that there will be good and bad days.  Mothers need to know that they are not alone and should talk about their feelings with their peers or support groups. Before talking to your employer or HR representative, create a written plan outlining your needs. This information will help you adjust your offer to the terms your employer has already agreed with your colleagues. Every entrepreneur is Different, only you know how much to share, but be as open and honest as possible.  Be willing to offer workarounds, such as setting up a trial period for your work schedule, so you can demonstrate how the agreement doesn’t limit productivity.

 Being disciplined and setting time limits when checking emails or making phone calls is something your child can do while sleeping.  Reduce your TV viewing once a week to maximize your time with your partner at night.  Try to avoid multitasking, especially when spending time with children.  Try not to waste time in your workplace.  Of course, you want to have a bond with your colleagues, but strong email exchanges, casual web browsing, gossip, and long lunches can distract you and reduce your productivity.  Focus on work tasks and chat with colleagues during breaks or lunch.
